Bathroom Remodeling in New Jersey

A beautifully remodeled bathroom adds comfort, value, and luxury to your daily routine. AJH Construction specializes in transforming outdated bathrooms into spa-like retreats with premium fixtures, custom tile work, and expert plumbing coordination.

At AJH Construction, every bathroom remodeling project begins with a thorough site assessment and detailed planning phase. We work closely with you to understand your goals, budget, and timeline — then build a project plan that delivers on all three.

Our trade professionals hold all required New Jersey licenses and certifications. Every aspect of your project is permitted, inspected, and documented — giving you peace of mind and protecting your investment when you sell.

What a Full Bathroom Remodel Includes

A complete bathroom renovation starts with full demolition — tile, drywall, fixtures, and flooring removed down to the studs and subfloor. The underlying plumbing and electrical are inspected and updated as needed before any new materials go in. Cement board backer goes up before tile work begins; waterproofing is applied to all wet areas. New plumbing fixtures are rough-in set, tile is laid and grouted, vanity and cabinetry are installed, and finish fixtures (faucets, shower heads, mirrors, lighting) are set last. AJH Construction self-performs most of this scope with licensed tradespeople — no handoff to unknown subcontractors for critical waterproofing or rough plumbing.

Bathroom Remodeling Trends AJH Is Installing Across NJ

The most requested bathroom upgrade in Northern NJ today is the walk-in shower conversion — replacing an old tub/shower combo with a large, curbless shower with frameless glass. Wet rooms (where the full bathroom floor is waterproofed and no barrier separates the shower) are popular in larger master baths. Warm-toned tile — travertine-look porcelain, terracotta, and warm cream — has largely replaced cool gray. Double floating vanities with under-mount LED lighting, oversized mirrors, and freestanding soaking tubs as accent pieces complete the contemporary NJ master bath.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a bathroom remodel take in New Jersey?
A full master bathroom remodel — demo through final fixtures — typically takes 4–6 weeks. A guest bathroom or powder room renovation can run 2–3 weeks. Timeline is primarily driven by tile availability and fixture lead times. AJH Construction provides a project schedule at the outset and coordinates all material deliveries to keep work continuous.
Do I need a permit to remodel my bathroom in New Jersey?
Any work involving plumbing changes — moving a drain, adding a fixture, or rerouting supply lines — requires a plumbing permit. Electrical work beyond simple fixture swaps requires an electrical permit. AJH Construction evaluates permit requirements during planning and handles all applications. Permitted work protects you at resale; uninspected plumbing and electrical can complicate real estate transactions in NJ.
Can you remodel a bathroom without moving the plumbing?
Yes. Many full bathroom remodels replace all tile, fixtures, the vanity, and the shower or tub without relocating drains or supply lines. This reduces cost and complexity significantly. AJH Construction assesses your existing plumbing layout during the initial consultation and designs around those constraints when appropriate — and lets you know clearly when reconfiguration would add meaningful value.
What is the difference between a wet room and a walk-in shower?
A walk-in shower is a dedicated shower enclosure within the bathroom — typically with a curb or threshold and glass surround. A wet room waterproofs the entire bathroom floor so the shower area flows seamlessly into the room with no barrier. Wet rooms require more extensive waterproofing but create a spa-like aesthetic that is popular in larger master baths. AJH Construction installs both.
Will a bathroom remodel increase my NJ home's value?
Bathroom remodels are generally considered among the strongest home improvements for resale in New Jersey, and a dated primary bathroom is one of the most common buyer objections in NJ real estate. That said, returns vary by municipality, market conditions, and the scope of the project — every township is different. We recommend consulting a local real estate professional familiar with your area for resale-specific guidance.
