Kitchen Remodeling in New Jersey

The kitchen is where family gathers, memories are made, and your home's value is most clearly reflected. Our kitchen remodeling team crafts functional, beautiful spaces with premium cabinetry, countertops, and layouts tailored to how you live.

At AJH Construction, every kitchen remodeling project begins with a thorough site assessment and detailed planning phase. We work closely with you to understand your goals, budget, and timeline — then build a project plan that delivers on all three.

Our trade professionals hold all required New Jersey licenses and certifications. Every aspect of your project is permitted, inspected, and documented — giving you peace of mind and protecting your investment when you sell.

What Sets a High-Quality Kitchen Remodel Apart

The difference between a kitchen remodel that looks great on day one and one that holds up for twenty years comes down to what's behind the walls. AJH Construction approaches every kitchen with the same rigor: dedicated 20-amp circuits for appliances, proper GFCI placement, supply and drain lines verified before walls are closed, and cabinet installation level to within tolerances that prevent doors and drawers from drifting over time. Countertop templating happens only after cabinets are fully set. These sequencing disciplines are the reason our finished kitchens function as well as they look.

Open-Concept Kitchen Conversions in New Jersey

One of the most transformative projects we execute is opening up the first floor of older NJ colonials and ranches. Kitchens in homes built before 1990 were almost universally closed off — separated from the living and dining areas by walls that were often load-bearing. AJH Construction removes load-bearing walls safely, installs engineered beams sized and stamped by a structural engineer, and coordinates all required NJ municipal inspections. The result — a kitchen that flows into the living space — is the single most effective layout change for how NJ families actually live today.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a kitchen remodel take in New Jersey?
A full kitchen remodel — demo, rough plumbing and electrical, tile, cabinets, countertops, and appliances — typically runs 6–10 weeks. Custom cabinetry and specialty countertop materials have fabrication lead times of 4–8 weeks that must be planned before demolition begins. AJH Construction coordinates all material deliveries to minimize the time your kitchen is out of commission.
Do I need permits to remodel my kitchen in New Jersey?
If your remodel involves electrical work beyond simple fixture swaps, any plumbing changes, or structural modifications like wall removal, permits are required. Cabinet replacement and countertop swaps without plumbing or electrical changes may not require permits depending on your municipality. AJH Construction evaluates all requirements during planning and handles every application.
Can you remove a load-bearing wall to open up my kitchen?
Yes. Load-bearing wall removal with engineered beam installation is one of our most common scopes in NJ colonials and ranches. We coordinate with a structural engineer to size and stamp the beam specification, manage all required permits, and handle the steel or LVL beam installation with our licensed crew. This work is permitted and inspected — it is not something that should be done without proper engineering and inspections.
Should I replace or reface my kitchen cabinets?
Cabinet refacing — replacing doors and drawer fronts while keeping the existing boxes — is cost-effective when the boxes are structurally sound and you are keeping the exact same layout. If you want to change the layout, add storage height, or reconfigure any cabinet runs, full replacement is the correct approach. AJH Construction assesses your existing cabinets during the consultation and gives you an honest recommendation.
What countertop material do you recommend for NJ kitchens?
Quartz is the most popular choice among our clients — it is non-porous, requires no sealing, resists staining, and comes in hundreds of styles including convincing marble looks. Natural quartzite is beautiful and durable but requires periodic sealing. Granite offers excellent value and unique natural variation. Porcelain slab is an increasingly popular option for its durability and large-format aesthetic. We work with premium stone suppliers and guide you through material selection as part of the design process.
